I got to know Billy Davis a bit when he was playing w/Hank Ballard & the Midnighters in the late 80's, he was a helluva sweet guy. When he retired from music in '89 he took to teaching crippled children. He can be heard on many late 50's and early 60's Midnighters sides having replaced Cal Green when Cal went to prison.
I'd always yell for Spunky Onions when they played which always made him laugh, but they never played it.

I would think helping crippled children is right up there with saving orphaned kittens from a burning church.

Deeds don't get much "gooder" than than that, even as far as boyscouts are concerned.

Wasn't Sonny Woods a Musician of some repute as well? I hear-tell he played in an early incarnation of the Midnighters.

Sonny Woods was a singer, he was one of the original Royals who became the Midnighters, pre-dating Hank Ballard's joining the group. He left early on and I'm not sure what happend to him. Vocal groups are like baseball teams w/members changing so often is hard to come up with reliable dates and information on who's who.

...as well as who went to prison for armed robbery. It's a toss up.
