First off, given American International Picture's (See: previous post) illustrious legacy of jamming two sub-par movies together as a package deal, these two features just really don’t fit. Headless Ghost is more of a ‘Ghost of Dragstrip Hollow’- like comedy and Horrors of the Black Museum is the greatest giallo film that neither Argento nor Fulchi made. Add to the fact that both films hail from 59’, a social period remembered more for space-age terror and giant bugs then subtlety, and you can begin to see why a promotional record featuring a vocal group jam (passe’ even by 1959’s standards) perhaps wasn’t the best advertising move. I mean, have you ever heard of either of these movies? I didn’t think so.That not to say the record is a lemon. On the contrary, I think it plays particularly loose with it’s accaplella nuttiness. Pair this w/ a copy of ‘Attack of the Giant Leeches’ on AIP records (or AIR) and you got yerself the cream of the Samuel Z. Arkoff's corny crop.
As far as Halloween is concerned, there sure ain’t a more haunted notion then a Ghost who can’t get no head….wait, I think I may have misunderstood the assignment.

I have the trailer linked above. For some reason it is listed weird on youtube (I guess the internet is trying to keep it a secret or somethin'). I used samples from the trailer on a mix I did w/ DevilDick last Halloween. Just the same, thanks for the leg up. You always have neat stuff for Halloween, so I can't believe you never heard of these Herman Cohen films! The Black Museum is considered a British horror classic and the second is a nonsense quickie that AIP ordered him to do (I don't remember if his name is actually on the second one). AIP did have a record label, but this 45 might be one of the promos that theater owners could order as giveaways or pre-promotional handouts.

It's a good idea to send copies of the messages (cut & paste), and their links (the highlighted Chinese characters link to web pages) to spam@uce.gov. I know that's a bother, but it works (eventually) because they locate and identify the sources. That's one of the things that killed off "Sexy." You could also report it to Blogger Abuse but I don't know if that will do anything.
KL: Ahhh, now I never said I have never seen them, I merely pointed out the fact that even in the hallowed halls of A.I.P. there are some obscure gems to be cut;) I specifically recall Headless Ghost being very similar to that British 60's flick 'Ghost Goes Gear' staring the Spencer Davis Group. As for HOTBM, it ranks right up there w/ the golden age of Italian Horror, even if it is Saxon in nature. As for American International Records, I know that besides this disc they also released a Giant Leeches 45 and a record w/ some of the tunes form Ghost of Dragstrip Hollow (Which is one of my faves). I think the song was Ricochett.
